Causes of the Financial Crisis in the US

Causes of the monetary Crisis in the USINTERNATIONAL BUSINESSDuring the later half of the 20th century U.S economy was the most powerful economy in the world, they set the rules for rest of the world. They established multinational corporations all over the world which was indeed the heart of world economy. (Davis, 2009). When the U.S economy was rising, all the other countries economy were as well growing, at the same time when their economy went down it affected almost all the other importing and exporting countries in the world because of the recent crises which was named as GLOBAL FINANCIAL CRISIS. This was meant to be the biggest crises after THE GREAT DEPRESSION 1930 (Cambridge Journal of Economics, 2009). The crises have already recorded loss of over $150 billion and vainglorious number of banking institutions have declared bankruptcy or being sold.(Kregel, 2008) One among the banks filed for bankruptcy was Lehman Brothers, which was Fourth largest investment bank in U.S. ( BBC, 2009). Therefore it is important to get a line causes of current financial crises and resolution measures. Secondly, UK presidency should take effective steps in order to reduce danger of further crises (Turner, 2009)During later part of the nineteenth century that is 1973 Daniel bell published a book titled THE COMING OF POST INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY. The book was about forecasting to find the changes in economy and society in united state. One of the most visible changes according to him was the work force shifting from manufacturing and agriculture to service based exertion which he named as POST-INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY. The author was right in his prediction because today only 10% of the total labour force is employed in agriculture and manufacturing industry. Between the period December 2000 and May 2009 US lost more(prenominal) than 5.25 million employees in manufacturing sector. There were many problems in durable goods industry, in particular in auto manufacturing industry. Two or more companies in that sector declared bankruptcy which stated that there was lot more bad word of honor to come. Comparatively, manufacturing jobs were long lasting on an average of 8 years compared to an average of 3 years in service industry. The shift was driven by Wal-Mart. The firm employed about 1.4 million employees in 2009 which was more than that of 20 largest American manufacturing companies together. This caused changes to occur in pension financing and people started investing in unwashed bills. This happened through change in pension financial that took over small amount to mutual fund from large amount of investment savings. This created pressure for last returns and also takes away the option of staying with a single firm. This enabled growth of institutional investors. Huge amount of portable pension funds were managed by banks, mutual funds and insurance firms. Nearly 1000 corporation shares were owned by institutional investors in 2005, with mutual fun d taking maximum of 10% or more in hundreds of corporations. For manufacturers the main focus was on share value which spread OME model (Original equipment manufacturer) which means the production is out sourced to other external organizations. Other than manufacturers, functions much(prenominal) as HR and IT etc were also outsourced. This slowly made drastic changes in traditional corporation where it became empty. They were concerned mainly about turning the out-sourced products into branded commodities. This shows that the impart market existed only for intangible assets. (Davis, 2009)Now we shall discuss about the causes of the worldwide financial crisisOne of the main precedents for the crises was the housing blab. A housing bubble is an economies bubble that occurs in local or international market. The recent financial crises started eventually in 2001 with the busting of U.S housing bubble and reached its peak in 2005.Basically it is said when there is a rapid increase i n real estate prises until it touches its peak and reaches unsustainable level. The bubble in the houses was identified in 2006 after the market correction. Former chairman of federal official Reserve Board, Alan Greenspan said in 2007 that they had bubble in housing but it was very(prenominal) late until they realized in 2005 and 2006 (Bianco, 2008)Many economists believe that the main reason behind housing bubble was caused by low interest rate set up by the Federal bank. The interest rates were reduced to 1% from 6.5%, this made people to mortgage their property against the loan. The banks in return encouraged everyone to obtain loan against their mortgages because real estate prices were at its peak. business.cch.com When inflation began in 2004, US federal withdrew monetary accommodation, they started increasing the interest rate and mortgages payment also started rising apparently. Tight money policy came into play and there was a big(p) demand of money and therefore house p rices fell. Banks and other financial institutions financed at very low rate, and when interest rates started raising there were heavy de edgeine of default by the subprime borrowers thus default by such borrowers led to losses. Though the loans were secured and were sold to special institutional vehicles (SIVs) the losses were still bourn by banks and other institutions (Mohan, 2009)De standard of financial system gave rise to tradable instruments through securitization. Securitization means turning an asset or credit card debt into tradable instrument. This system made base to become both investors and issuers of securities. Thus trading in different form of capital emerged which was unstable and did not last for long which caused the financial crises (Davis, 2009). Apparently US government failed to manage their trade deficit. The housing bubble was mainly caused by loud credit and low interest rate rates. The main reason for cheap credit was there was a lot Chinese capital in U.S. And that is because US imports most of the products from china and sells it at a cheap rate to its consumers (Weismann, 2008)Global Macro Economy Imbalance According to Portes (2009) global macro economy was one of the major implicit in(p) reasons of the financial crises. This is because of saving investments and huge cross frame up capital flow made a lot of pressure on financial intermediation process, these imbalances with flaw in the financial market and instrument together became one of the specific features of crises (Mohan, 2009).In view of the current crisis, the UK Government can initiate the following actions to prevent another crisisLooking at the long term , we think of what should be done in order to avoid danger of future crises, it is clear that macro economy imbalance was one of the major underlying reason, so it is better UK government try to find the problems which lie at the interface between macro economy policy and financial system regulation.few more th ings that government should consider are they should make sure that they protect the needs of ordinary people when the information is costly to acquire. Next measure is the government should make sure that internalises significant externalities. This is in contrast to the currency regulatory frame work which does not focus on externalities and it also provides incentives for the institutions to become very large to fail or too interconnected to fail, because the larger the institution the more interconnected and higher the risk of escaping during crises.( Brunnermeier, 2009)The government should also focus on systematic risk contribution because during the financial crises losses tend to spread over other financial institutions also. The government should try to form a regulation that reduces the risk of spreading over the losses to financial institutions. A financial contribution to systematic risk can be large because of its correlation with financial difficulties among the other institutes or causes financial difficulties at other institutes. Therefore new measures should be taken to reduce the risk of both the channels. (Brunnermeier, 2009)According to Turner (2009), fluidity management and new regulations help to minimize liquidity risk. The future rules and regulations should be monitored effectively (Turner, 2009).Asset price booms can be regulated by implementing severe fiscal and monetary policies. These policies should take into consideration price stabilization and macro-financial stability. There has to be effective co-ordination between domestic and international policies. The UK Government should try to alter all the financial institutions that hold illiquid assets. The regulators have to combine macro-prudential and macro economic analysis by using sectoral analysis (Turner 2009).REFERENCESBrunnermeier, M.K., (2009) Financial Crisis Mechanisms, Prevention and Management Online Princeton University. available at http//66.102.9.132/search?q=cac he2lGCaBp37xYJfmg.lse.ac.uk/upload_file/1197_BrunnermeierPaper.pdf+http//fmg.lse.ac.uk/upload_file/1197_BrunnermeierPaper.pdfcd=1hl=enct=clnkgl=uk accessed 28 February 2010BBC., (2009) Timeline Credit Crunch to Downturn Online Available at http//news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/7521250.stm accessed 28 February 2010Bianco, K.M., (2008) The Subprime Lending Crisis Causes and Effects of the owe Meltdown Online CCH Mortgage Compliance Guide and Bank Digest. Handling the Issues of Rage and Murder in Poetry :: Education for Leisure The Hitcher Poems Essays

Handling the Issues of Rage and Murder in PoetryThe two poems I am going to analyse are Education for Leisure byCarol Ann Duffy and The Hitcher. These poems twain have potentiallydangerous talkers. The first line of Education for leisure contains murderous feeling, this grabs the reader and submerses them into the poem.Today I am going to kill something. AnythingThe poet uses direct and powerful words, by using the word somethinginstead of someone the poet makes it unclear what the speaker wantsto kill.In Education for Leisure the speaker thinks that his readiness tokill makes him somehow smarter whence anyone else. This is shown whenthe speaker saysI am a genius...The speaker seems to kill for killing sake. This sadism is shown inline five when the speaker saysI squash a fly against the window with my thumb. We did that at school. Shakespeare. This can be interpreted in two ways, one way is that killing andShakespeare can be associated with boredom. The other way is a linefrom King L ear By William ShakespeareAs locomote to wanton boys are we to the godsThey kill us for their sport. (4.1.57-58)Carol Ann Duffy uses this a another way of symbolising the speakersdelusional view that he is a God.The poet reinforces the point that the speaker is delusional when hesaysThe cat avoids me. The catKnows I am a genius, and has obscure itself. The speaker thinks here that the cat thinks he is a God and has hiddenout of fear, he thinks the whole planet revolves around himself. The speaker also thinks he is famous. I dial the radioand tell the man hes talking to a superstar. He cuts me off.By now the speaker is probably getting very frustrated, he then takesa drastic step.I get our bread-knife and go out.The pavements spark suddenly. I touch your arm.By saying your arm instead of someones arm Carol Ann Duffy bringsthe reader into the poem by making the point that people like thespeaker do exist and this sort of thing could happen. The speaker in The Hitcher is observably feelin g very depressed.Id been tired underthe weather,The speaker is presumably mentally ill, he picks up a hitcher ...inLeedsOne difference The Hitcher has to Education for Leisure is that inThe hitcher we know someone is killed.I let him have iton the top road out of Harrogate - oncewith the head, then six times with the krooklokin the face...even though were not directly told that the hitcher is dead its

Comparing Setting and Narrative Style in the Works of Edgar Allen Poe :: Biography Biographies Essays

Setting and Narrative Style in Pit and the Pendulum, House of Usher, Black Cat, and Cask of Amontillado The focus of this test is the setting and narrative style used in the works of Edgar Allen Poe. Although galore(postnominal) critics have different views on Poes writing style, perhaps Harold Bloom summed it up topper when he said, Poe has an uncanny talent for exposing our common nightmares and hysteria lurking beneath our carefully structured lives. ( 7) In many of Poes works, setting is used to paint a lousiness and gloomy picture in our minds. I think that this was done deliberatly by Poe so that the reader can make a connection between evil and death. For example, in the Pit and the Pendulum, the setting is originally pitch black. As the story unfolds, we see how the setting begins to play an important role in how the narrator discovers the many ways he may die. Although he must rely on his senses alone to feel his surroundings, he knows that somewhere in this dark, gl oomy room, that death awaits him. Richard Wilbur tells us how fitting the put up in The Pit and the Pendulum actually was. Though he lives on the brink of the pit, on the very verge of the plunge into unconciousness, he is becalm unable to disengage himself from the physical and temperal world. The physical oppreses him in the shape of lurid graveyard visions the temporal oppreses him in the shape of an enormous and deadly pendulum. It is altogether appropriate, then, that this chamber should be constricting and cruelly angular (63). Setting is also an important characteristic is Poes The Fall of the House of Usher. The images he gives us such as how both the Usher family and the Usher mansion are crumbling from inside waiting to collapse, help us to connect the background with the story. Vincent Buranelli says that Poe is able to sysatin an atomosphere which is dark and dull. This is one of the tricks which he laregely derived from the tradition of the Gothic tale (79). The whol e setting in the story provides us with a feeling of melancholy. The Usher mansion appears vacant and barren. The same is true(a) for the narrator. As we picture in our minds the extreme decay and decomposistion, we can feelas though the life around it is also crumbling.

Silk - Research Method :: essays research papers

Do you know the process that goes into making silk? Many people over look this fine, luxurious garment. When I first heard that we had to do an I-search, I was overwhelmed by the choices. I made many changes before lowestly settling on this topic. When I first though of how to make silk, I didnt think that it would be that hard with the right tools. Although I knew that the fibers came from the silk worms cocoon I still didnt know how they got it unraveled. I also thought that they only made silk in china. There be many things that I didnt know close making silk. When I thought of doing this topic I didnt think that it would be to easy either. I thought that I would have to go to more than one source to get the answer.I have one main goal for writing this I-search. That is be beget it is an assignment. If I wanted to know about this topic I wouldnt spend this much time on it.In the begging I wanted to do the topic "Is biological weapons worth the destruction that they cause on the planet?". Then I thought to myself, "There isnt a really right answer because everyone will have a different P.O.V. at once I had to come up with a better question, on that has a true answer. Then I thought to myself again, "Do you know how monorails work?". I didnt answer myself because then I would be crazy. But the first book I looked in I found the answer, so I dropped that idea. My last and final I-search topic would be, "How is silk made?". I think that that answer may be fairly easy to find, but its a topic that interested me because my grandma has been to China and has seen that places where they (The Chinese) make the silk. She also showed me the cocoons that they take the thread from. On the first day that I started looking for the answer my English class went to the library. From there I straighten out the library for the answer. My first stop was an encyclopedia. The first random book that I pulled from the shelf was called Encyclopedia Am erica. That one wasnt much help. It only told me how silk worms are cultivated. That didnt bother me much, because I was confident that I would find the answer still.

Hitler :: essays research papers fc

In the fall of 1922, the Germans asked the Allies for a moratorium on the reparations payments that they were demand to pay according to the Versailles Treaty (from World War I). The French government refused the request and occupied the Ruhr, the integral industrial area of Germany, when the Germans defaulted on their payments. The French duty united the German people to act against the occupation by staging a general strike. The German government supported the workers by giving them monetary support. Inflation increased exponentially within Germany creating a growing concern over the Weimar Republics capability to govern Germany. In August 1923, Gustav Stresemann became Chancellor of Germany. On family 26, Stresemann ordered the end of the general strike in the Ruhr and decided to pay reparations. Rightfully believing that there would be anger and revolts to his announcement, Stresemann had President Ebert declare a state of emergency. The Bavarian government was unhappy with S tresemanns capitulation and declared its own state of emergency on the same day as Stresemanns announcement. Bavaria was then command by a triumvirate which consisted of Generalkommissar Gustav von Kahr, General Otto von Lossow (commander of the army in Bavaria), and Colonel Hans Ritter von Seisser (commander of the state police). Though the triumvirate ignored and even defied several orders that were directly from Berlin, by the end of October 1923 it seemed that the triumvirate was losing heart. They had wanted to protest, alone not if it were to destroy them. Hitler believed it was time to take action. The PlanIt is still debated who actually came up with the plan to kidnap the triumvirate, some say Alfred Rosenberg, some say max Erwin von Scheubner-Richter, while still others say Hitler himself. The original plan was to capture the triumvirate on the German Memorial Day (Totengedenktag) on November 4, 1923. Kahr, Lossow, and Seisser would be on a stand, pickings the salute fr om the troops during a parade. The plan was to arrive on the street before the troops arrived, shut off the street by setting up machine guns, and then get the triumvirate to join Hitler in the "revolution." The plan was foiled when it was discovered (the day of the parade) that the parade street was well protected by police. They requisite another plan. This time, they were going to march into Munich and seize its strategic points on November 11, 1923 (the anniversary of the armistice).

Account of the Travels, Sufferings and Persecutions of Barbara Blaugdon

Account of the Travels, Sufferings and Persecutions of Barbara Blaugdone The title of Barbara Blaugdones memoir is An Account of the Travels, Sufferings and Persecutions of Barbara Blaugdone, with travels highlighted by its enormous size. Indeed, when reading the book the reader is perhaps just about struck by Blaugdones excessive, nearly constant travel habits. It may even be argued that at its heart the book is a travel floor and not a memoir or even a religious account. She traipses about the seas around the British Islea, not only in England but in any case venturing to Ireland to proselytize and preach to those yet untouched by the Quaker message. Travel was an important part of Quaker life. As a fledgling religious exploit focused on the importance of introspective faith and a personal relationship with God, many Friends took it upon themselves to spread the word world-wide. Furthermore, as a group looked blast upon and disliked by the rest of English society, Quakers were tempered to have a predisposition towards independence and adventure that serve...

journeyhod Journey into Hell in Joseph Conrads Heart of Darkness Ess

The Journey into Hell in Heart of Darkness In Joseph Conrads novel, Heart of Darkness the surroundings is often symbolic as well as literal. The novel contains both the frame narrator, an anonymous member of the Nellie, representing the dominant society, and more importantly the primary narrator, Marlow, who too, is a product of the dominant society. For the novels narrator, Marlow, the journey up the Congo River to the heart of sinfulness is reminiscent of Guidos journey into hell in Dantes Inferno, with these literary allusion always present, through forms of intense imagery. The landscape takes on a hellish nature and the wilderness is personified. Death is omnipresent and this is reflected in the death imagery used to describe the cities of Brussels and London, the Congo region and Kurtz station. The fabrication of society and civilization is reflected in the authors description of the sepulchral city. The novel begins with the narrator, Marlow, and some of the ships crew waiting at dusk for the tide to change so that their cruising yawl the Nellie whitethorn enter the London harbour. The frame narrator expresses quite optimistic views on colonialism especially pertaining to London, which is described as the greatest city on earth, yet these opinions are then challenged by both marlow and the use of imagery. The coastline is described as being shrouded in diaphanous folds of fog... ...cityscape provide a physical setting which serves to reflect the mental state of the narrator, Marlow and the evils of life, as well as forgrounding the journey of the narrator - mentally, emotionally, and intellectually. The environment particularly that of the Congo and of Brussels, reflect death, hypocrisy and even humans profound heart of darkness. Bibliography Conrad, J. (1995). Heart of Darkness.
